Re-Classifying History

Catherine Wagner in Conversation at the de Young Museum

To inaugurate the opening of the remodeled de Young Museum by Herzog de Meuron, Catherine Wager was asked to create a body of work from its collection in storage. Interested in how these cultural objects have been taken from various time periods and parts of the world, and end up next to each other in storage, Wagner photographed the objects in their crating system, alluding to this history.

On March 24 at 5pm PST, Catherine Wagner and Janna Keegan, Assistant Curator of Contemporary Art and Programming at the de Young Museum, discussed Wagner’s 2005 body of work ‘Re-Classifying History’. Watch below.
